The Difference Between Juvederm and Juvederm Voluma

Juvederm and Juvederm Voluma XC are both popular nonsurgical fillers from Allergan, the makers of Botox. Cosmetic or dermal fillers help give your face a fuller, smoother, more youthful look. They can be done in a doctor’s office in just a few minutes, and there is almost no recovery time. Here are some of the differences between Juvederm, Voluma, and other fillers. Share this useful information with your friends so that everyone can look their best.

The Best Placement

Juvederm Voluma is designed to be injected deep in the dermis and to lay right on top of the facial bones. It works best when it’s injected into the upper cheek, the middle cheek, or the chin. It adds a lifting, volumizing effect to the upper and mid face areas, which are often more difficult to treat. With age, skin, fat, muscle, and bone tend to lose volume, causing a thin or hollow appearance around the chin, cheeks, and cheekbones. Voluma restores volume, provides contouring, and smoothes out wrinkles. It’s the only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid-based filler designed for these specific facial regions. Voluma can’t be used under your eyes, in your lips, or in the lines between your nose and mouth, also called nasolabial folds.

Juvederm is best for these areas. Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in your skin. It’s synthesized without animal components in a lab. Juvederm is softer than most other cosmetic fillers, which makes it the best dermal filler for lip injections.

Before and After of Juvederm Voluma

During and After Your Injection

Juvederm Voluma has a thicker consistency than Juvederm. This gives it unique lifting properties and leads to differences in where it can be placed. Juvederm Ultra Plus is also thicker than Juvederm, but not as thick as Voluma. It works best for deeper nasolabial folds and for your cheeks. All fillers can take a few days to settle into their final shape. A small amount of swelling, tenderness, and bruising is normal. Use an ice pack and avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and other painkillers that could make bruising worse for one week before and two days after your injection. Juvederm causes less swelling than other cosmetic fillers, and all types contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic to reduce pain during injection. Your doctor may also use a topical anesthetic cream to make you more comfortable.

How Long It Lasts

Since it sits so deep in the skin, Juvederm Voluma lasts from one and a half to two years. However, most people need two injections spaced about a month apart for the best initial results. Juvederm is the first and only nonsurgical hyaluronic acid filler that’s approved by the FDA to instantly smooth moderate to severe wrinkles around your nose and mouth for up to a year.
